作者简介

王宏志，倫敦大學亞非學院哲學博士，現任 香港 中文大學翻譯系榮休講座教授兼研究教授、翻譯研究中心主任，專研 18 –20 世紀中國翻譯史、現代中國文學與 政治 ，出版專著十多部，如《重釋「信、達、雅」：20世紀中國翻譯研究》、《翻譯與文學之間》、《翻譯與 近代 中國》等，主編著作包括 Translation and Global Asia 、Sinologists as Translators in the Seventeenth to Nineteenth Centuries 、Translation and Modernization in East Asia in the Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries 、Crossing Borders 等。

内容简介

作為中英官方的第一次正式接觸，1793 年馬戛爾尼使團訪華對兩國的 歷史 發展均有深遠影響。在過往研究中，翻譯在使團活動所扮演的角色屢被忽略，導致不少研究上的偏差和誤解。本書搜集並運用大量檔案和文獻材料，釐清譯員背景以及國書、敕諭等各類文書的翻譯和改寫問題，力圖還原中英首次對話的內容和翻譯過程，全面準確地解讀英國使團訪華事件，並有力地論證了翻譯在近代中國外交活動的重要性及其對國家政治、 文化 和歷史的關鍵影響。
