Originally published in 1766, Lessing's seminal tract is a turning point in the study of Western art. In this essay on the origins, forms, and influences of p ai nting and poetry, Lessing helped frame modern conceptions of the artistic medium, and founded our modernist assumptions of the uniqueness of the individual arts.

莱辛（1729.01.22～1781.02.15）， 德国 人，生于德国的萨克森，莱比锡大学毕业，德国启蒙 运动 时期剧作家、 美学 家、 文艺 批评家。生于劳西茨地区的卡门茨(Kamenz)，父亲是牧师。

1746年入莱比锡大学学神学，同年写出处女作是 喜剧 《年轻的学者》。1760年之 前，从事编 辑和撰稿 工作 ，主编过《柏林特许报》 文学 副刊等。创作了《萨拉·萨姆逊小姐》（1755）和翻译了《狄德罗先生的 戏剧 》（1760）。之后完成了反普鲁士的喜剧《明娜·封·巴尔赫姆》（1767）。汉堡剧院成立后任戏剧 艺术 顾问，并写成《汉堡剧评》。之后又完成名悲剧《爱米丽雅·迦洛蒂》（1772）、《智者纳旦》（1778），与《萨》剧构成莱辛的三大名剧。评论集是《新文学通讯》和《汉堡剧评》。前者有17封信，基本上包括了他戏剧理论的主要观点：创立与本 民族 历史 和现实紧密结合的民族文学和戏剧...
